Dick Tufeld (born December 11, 1926 - died January 22, 2012) was an American actor, announcer, narrator, and voice actor from the 1950s onward.

He is perhaps best known as the voice of the Robot in the TV series Lost in Space, a role he reprised for the 1998 feature film. He also provided the narration voiceover for many other Irwin Allen productions, such as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and The Time Tunnel, and did voice work for the 1978 animated television series Fantastic Four.

His voice career began in radio. He was the announcer on The Amazing Mr. Malone on the American Broadcasting Company in early 1950 (before the show moved to New York and NBC), then on Alan Reed's Falstaff's Fables, an ABC five-minute program, starting in the fall radio season of 1950. From October 25, 1952 to March 19, 1955, he was the announcer for the entire run of ABC Radio's Space Patrol. He moved to television news, anchoring The Three Star Final, a 15-minute newscast on KABC-TV, Los Angeles, which debuted on October 3, 1955 at 12 noon (replacing Wrangler Jim), then moved to 11 p.m. on April 2, 1956.

He was often used as the announcer on various Disney TV shows including the 1957-59 series, Zorro, which starred future Lost in Space lead Guy Williams. He had stints as the house announcer on two ABC variety series The Hollywood Palace and The Julie Andrews Hour.

Leonard Stone – Willy Wonka’s Sam Beauregarde Dead at 87

I remember him well as the cosmic zookeeper Farnum on two episodes of Lost In Space. A familiar face, Leonard Stone earned a Tony nomination for his work in the 1959 musical Redhead and appeared on numerous television shows such as L.A. Law, Perry Mason, General Hospital, Mission: Impossible, Barney Miller, Gunsmoke, and Hill Street Blues but he’ll always be best remembered as Sam Beauregarde, motor-mouthed politician and father of Violet Beauregarde in Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory (1971). Though mostly a TV actor, Stone also had a memorable role in Soylent Green as the manager of the building in which Joseph Cotten was killed. In September of 2000, he appeared as an ordinary, non-celebrity contestant on Wheel of Fortune. He placed second, winning $4,250.

Leonard Stone, the acto who played the father of Violet Beauregarde in 1971's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," died Wednesday, November 2nd, after battling cancer. He would have turned 88 Thursday. Though Stone is best known for his Beauregarde role, whose most famous line was "Violet! You're turning violet!," the actor had numerous parts on TV shows, films and also Broadway. He appeared in television shows "Lost in Space," "Mod Squad," "Mission: Impossible," "M*A*S*H" and "La Law," as well as "Toys in the Attic" and "I Love My Wife" (among others) on the big screen. Stone was nominated for a Tony for his performance in "Redhead" on Broadway.

For the first time in our bay area one of the original Lost in Space cast members will be coming to San Jose! Several years ago Bob May attended the Halloween Haunted House event, with great reviews. At the last event I saw Bill I asked him if he would be interested in attending our comic/toy show held in San Jose. He was very excited about the idea, and asked us to contact his agent. Owner and promoter of the show, quickly did, and now the rest is history.

I will be attending the event with my pal, Larry Lee Moniz and will have a special display table next to Bill at the one day event showcasing some of my rare Irwin Allen collectibles from my personal collection over the past 12 years!

I hope many of you can attend this event and support the show, and meeting Bill in person. Hopefully we can get other Lost in Space cast members (and other IA shows cast stars) in future events!

In Loving Memory - Barbara Billingsley

December 22, 1915 - October 16, 2010

Was an American film, television, voice and stage actress. She gained prominence in the 1950s movie The Careless Years, acting opposite Natalie Trundy, followed by her best–known role, that of June Cleaver on the television series Leave It to Beaver (1957–1963) and its sequel Still the Beaver (also known as The New Leave It to Beaver).

Billingsley was born Barbara Lillian Combes in Los Angeles, California in 1915, the youngest child of Anglo–American parents: patrolman Robert Collyer Combes (1891–1950)and his first wife, the former Lillian Agnes McLaughlin. She had one elder sibling, Elizabeth (1911–1992). Her parents divorced sometime before her fourth birthday, and her father, who later became an assistant chief of police, remarried. After her divorce, Lillian Combes went to work as a forelady at a knitting mill.

Billingsley fell in love with drama in the second grade, and during her years at George Washington High School in Los Angeles (now Washington Preparatory High School), she performed in all the school plays. Billingsley was voted "Class Queen". She graduated from George Washington in 1934.

Until 1941, the actress used the name Barbara Combes. After 1941, when she married her first husband, Glenn Billingsley, she used Barbara Billingsley.

After attending Los Angeles Junior College for one year, Billingsley traveled to Broadway, when Straw Hat, a revue in which she was appearing, attracted enough attention to send it to New York. When, after five days, the show closed, she took an apartment on 57th Street and went to work as a $60–a–week fashion model. She also landed a contract with MGM Studios in 1945.

She usually had uncredited roles in major motion picture productions in the 1940s. These roles continued into the first half of the 1950s with The Bad and the Beautiful, Three Guys Named Mike, opposite Jane Wyman, as well as the sci-fi Story Invaders from Mars (1953). Her film experience led to roles on the sitcoms Professional Father (with Stephen Dunne and Beverly Washburn) and The Brothers as well as an appearance with David Niven on his anthology series Four Star Playhouse. In 1957, she guest starred in the episode "That Magazine" of the CBS sitcom Mr. Adams and Eve, starring Howard Duff and Ida Lupino. She co–starred opposite Dean Stockwell and Natalie Trundy in The Careless Years, which was her first and only major role in the movies.

In 1952, Billingsley had her first guest–starring role on an episode of The Abbott and Costello Show. The part led to other roles on The Lone Wolf, two episodes of City Detective, The Pride of the Family, Schlitz Playhouse of Stars, Letter to Loretta, General Electric Summer Originals, You Are There, Cavalcade of America, Panic!, Mr. Adams and Eve, The Love Boat, Silver Spoons, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Mike Hammer, Empty Nest, among many others. She reprised her June Cleaver role three times, in Amazing Stories, Baby Boom and Roseanne. She also guest-starred on an episode of Make Room For Daddy, in which Thomas's character is a widower. The producers reportedly considered casting her as his second wife, but later decided against it, and Marjorie Lord eventually got the

Leave It to Beaver:

After Billingsley signed a contract with Universal Studios in 1957, she made her mark on TV as everyday mother June Cleaver on Leave It to Beaver, alongside other 1950s family sitcoms such as Father Knows Best, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Make Room For Daddy and The Donna Reed Show. It debuted on CBS in 1957, to mediocre ratings and was soon cancelled. However, the show moved to ABC the following year and stayed there for the next five seasons. The show was featured in over 100 countries. Also starring on Beaver were Hugh Beaumont, in the role of Ward Cleaver, June's husband and the kids' father, as well as child actors Tony Dow in the role of Wally Cleaver and Jerry Mathers as Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver.

In the show, Billingsley often could be seen doing household chores wearing pearls and earrings. The pearls, which in real-life were Billingsley's trademark, were in turn her idea to have her alter ego wear on television. The actress had what she termed "a hollow" on her neck and thought that wearing a strand of pearls would cover it up for the cameras. In later seasons, she started wearing high heels to compensate for the fact that the actors who played her sons were growing up and getting taller than she was Billingsley had one regret about the show's lasting success: residual payments ended after six reruns in standard 1950s actors' contracts.

"She was the ideal mother," Billingsley said of her character in 1997 in TV Guide. "Some people think she was weakish, but I don't. She was the love in that family. She set a good example for what a wife could be. I had two boys at home when I did the show. I think the character became kind of like me and vice versa. I've never known where one started and where one stopped." As for the idealized TV family on "Leave It to Beaver," which continues in reruns on cable more than half a century after its debut, Billingsley had her own explanation for the Cleavers' enduring appeal. "Good grief," she told TV Guide, "I think everybody would like a family like that. Wouldn't it be nice if you came home from school and there was Mom standing there with her little apron and cookies waiting?" Billingsley, however, did question her character's reactions to the Cleaver children's misbehavior, basing her concern on personal experience as the mother of two sons. As co-producer Joseph Connelly explained, "In scenes where she's mad at the boys, she's always coming over to us with the script and objecting. 'I don't see why June is so mad over what Beaver's done. I certainly wouldn't be.' As a result, many of Beaver's crimes have been rewritten into something really heinous like lying about them, in order to give his mother a strong motive for blowing her lady-like stack."

After six seasons and 234 episodes, the popular series was canceled due to the cast's desire to move on to other projects, especially Mathers, who retired from acting to enter his freshman year in high school. The younger actor considered Billingsley a mentor, second mother and a close professional friend: As I say, Barbara was always, though, a true role model for me. She was a great actress. And a lot of people, you know, when they see her talk jive talk, they always go she can do other things besides be a mom on Leave It to Beaver. And I tell them, Airplane! (1980), she's been a great comedian all her life. And in a lot of ways, just like All in the Family, we kind of stifled her, because her true talent didn't really come out in Leave it To Beaver. She was like the straight woman, but she has an awful lot of talent. After the show's cancellation, Mathers remained her close friend for over 45 years. They were reunited on The New Leave It to Beaver. Billingsley, Mathers, Dow, Frank Bank and Ken Osmond also celebrated the show's 50th anniversary together.

After Beaver:

When production of the show ended in 1963, Billingsley had become typecast as saccharine sweet and had trouble obtaining acting jobs for years. She traveled extensively abroad until the late 1970s. After an absence of 17 years from the public eye (other than appearing in two episodes of The F.B.I. in 1971), Billingsley spoofed her wholesome image with a brief appearance in the comedy Airplane! (1980), as a passenger who could "speak jive". She became the voice of Nanny and The Little Train on Muppet Babies from 1984 to 1991.

Billingsley appeared with Robin Williams and Pam Dawber in a 1982 episode of Mork & Mindy. She appeared in a Leave It to Beaver reunion television movie entitled Still the Beaver in 1983. Hugh Beaumont had died the year before of a heart attack, so she played the widow. She also appeared in the subsequent revival of the series, The New Leave It to Beaver (1985–1989). In the 1997 film version of Leave It to Beaver, Billingsley played the character "Aunt Martha". In 1995, she appeared with other "TV Moms" on Roseanne. In 1998, she appeared on Candid Camera, along with June Lockhart and Isabel Sanford, as audience members in a spoof seminar on motherhood.

On October 4, 2007, she and her surviving castmates, Jerry Mathers, Tony Dow, Ken Osmond and Frank Bank, were reunited on ABC's Good Morning America, to celebrate Leave It to Beaver's 50th anniversary. According to interviewer Tom Bergeron, both of Billingsley's co-stars, Mathers and Osmond, currently get financial advice from another co-star, Bank.

On May 6, 2008, hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she was unable to attend the Academy Leonard Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood, California, where the Academy of Television Arts & Science presented "A Salute to TV Moms." TV moms who attended the party were: Marjorie Lord, Holland Taylor, Bonnie Franklin, Vicki Lawrence, Tichina Arnold, Cloris Leachman, Doris Roberts, Diahann Carroll, Catherine Hicks and Meredith Baxter.

"We will only feature hand-rendered artwork. No xeroxes, color copies, computer-scans, or copies of any kind. Each piece is a 100% original, one-of-a-kind piece. This is a first in the Hollywood Memorabilia industry. as well when possible each Certificate of Authenticity will also be signed by the original artist, or for those artists no longer with us, the person handling their estate." explained DosSantos.

One piece that was recently discovered by ScreenUsed is the key art for the "Trust Him" movie poster one-sheet of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. This was painted in 1984, and has been missing and never shown publicly in 25 years. "It is a modern-day masterpiece of advertising art, rendered by a very talented artist named Chris Hopkins. No one really knew who painted the original, and remarkably only the upper half of the original painting was used in the one-sheet poster. So we are exhibiting it for the very first time publicly." explained DosSantos.

ScreenUsed recently expanded its facilities to a 5,000 square foot state of the art facility that boasts a custom matte and frame shop in an addition to its already highly respected custom Plexi-glas display case shop. Under the supervision of ScreenUsed's co-founder and Production Art Gallery curator Jeff Castillo, their hand made custom display cases have raised the bar on Hollywood memorabilia displays.

"Original Production Art is affordable, easy to authenticate, simple to matte and frame for long-term preservation, easy to display, doesn't take up that much room and best of all compliments suites of costumes, props and miniatures." said Castillo. The cornerstone collections of the Production Art Gallery's preview launch are fine selections from the estates of legendary film movie poster one-sheet artist John Alvin (E.T., Blade Runner, Gremlins, Darkman etc.). Alvin is in the pantheon of legendary movie poster illustrators of the 20th century.

Depicted above are original pieces of artwork featuring the Star Wars characters from the art series "Guardians of the Legacy", concept art for the Darkman movie poster one-sheet, and a pencil study comp for the hit Disney film Enchanted, all executed by the late great master illustrator John Alvin.

Other original pieces of artwork that will be featured will include those from the estate of Irwin Allen's brilliant designer & producer Paul Zastupnevich, who if you are a fan of any Irwin Allen film or television series, know the designer should be a household name. Mike Bailey dies of leukemia

Longtime Portland radio host Mike Bailey died Monday morning, following a long struggle with leukemia.

Bailey, who was 60, had worked at KKCW-FM(103.3) since 1986. He had also suffered from a rare, serious liver disease that necessitated a transplant in 1992. Oddly, another KKCW morning host, Craig Walker, had the same ailment at the same time, and also had a successful liver transplant.

Bailey, who had been on the air in Portland for 40 years, attended Marshall High School and Lewis & Clark College. He joined the staff of KINK-FM in 1969, broadcasting first under the name Lee Nelson. Bailey left the station after a few years, then returned to serve as program director in the mid-'70s while also broadcasting under the name Bob Marx.

Eventually Bailey settled on using his real name on the air. By the time he moved to KKCW in 1986 listeners had come to recognize Bailey's cheerful on-air countenance, and his enthusiasm for silly jokes and, especially, science fiction.

A longtime fan of the movie and TV series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," Bailey maintained an elaborate Web site dedicated to the show*. He also maintained a fan site for "Firefly," another science fiction series, and its companion movie, "Serenity."

Radio remained his greatest love, however, and Bailey continued to do his afternoon show even as his illness rendered him too weak to come into the office. He broadcast from home for most of the last few months, and sometimes did his show via a special hook-up in his room at OHSU Hospital.

Bailey is survived by his wife, Beverly, and his two daughters, Annie and Catherine.

In Memory of Director Harry Harris

Harry Harris, 86, who had a five-decade career directing TV series and made-for-TV movies and won an Emmy Award for directing an episode of "Fame" in 1982, died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles, his family said. He had myelodysplasia, a blood disorder.

After working as a film editor for the Desilu television studio in the late 1950s, Harris got his chance to direct in 1960 on the Steve McQueen western TV series, "Wanted: Dead or Alive."

He went on to direct hundreds of episodes of TV series in the next 47 years, including dozens of installments of "Gunsmoke," "Land of the Giants," "Eight Is Enough," "The Waltons," "Falcon Crest," "In the Heat of the Night" and "7th Heaven." His extensive TV directing credits include "Rawhide," "Daniel Boone," "Branded," "Lost in Space," "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," "Magnum, P.I." and "Beverly Hills, 90210."

He also directed several made-for-TV movies, including "Waltons" and "Eight Is Enough" reunion programs and TV movie versions of "Swiss Family Robinson" (1975) and "Alice in Wonderland" (1988).

Harris was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., and moved to Los Angeles in 1937. He attended UCLA before landing a job at Columbia Pictures, where he became an assistant film editor.

He enlisted in the Army Air Forces during World War II and served with the First Motion Picture Unit at the old Hal Roach Studios in Culver City, working as a sound effects editor on newsreels and training films.

In addition to his Emmy for "Fame," Harris was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for directing a 1983 "ABC Afterschool Special" called "Have You Ever Been Ashamed of Your Parents?" starring Jennifer Jason Leigh.

He also earned Emmy and Directors Guild of America nominations for directing a 1973 episode of "The Waltons."

Bob May Dies at 69

January 18, 2009, actor Bob May, who wore the Robot's suit in the hit 1960's television show "Lost in Space," has died. He was 69.

May died Sunday of congestive heart failure at a hospital in Lancaster, said his daughter, Deborah May.

He was a veteran actor and stuntman who had appeared in movies, TV shows and on the vaudeville stage when he was tapped by "Lost in Space" creator Irwin Allen to play the Robinson family's loyal metal sidekick in the series that debuted in 1965.

"He always said he got the job because he fit in the robot suit," said June Lockhart, who played family matriarch Maureen Robinson. "It was one of those wonderful Hollywood stories. He just happened to be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see Irwin Allen about the part. Allen said, 'If you can fit in the suit, you've got the job.'"

Although May didn't provide the robot's distinctive voice (that was done by announcer Dick Tufeld), he developed a following of fans who sought him out at memorabilia shows.

"Lost in Space" was a space-age retelling of "The Swiss Family Robinson" story in which professor John Robinson, his wife and their children were on a space mission when their craft was knocked hopelessly off course by the evil Dr. Zachary Smith, who became trapped in space with them.

May's robot was the Robinson family's loyal sidekick, warning them of approaching disaster at every turn. His line to one of the children, "Danger, Will Robinson," became a national catch phrase.

The grandson of famed vaudeville comedian Chic Johnson, May was introduced to show business at age 2 when he began appearing in the "Hellzapoppin" comedy revue with Johnson and his partner, Ole Olsen.

He went on to appear in numerous films with Jerry Lewis and in such TV shows as "The Time Tunnel,""McHale's Navy and "The Red Skelton Show." He was also a stuntman in such 1950s and '60s TV shows as "Cheyenne,""Surfside 6,""Hawaiian Eye,""The Roaring 20s" and "Stagecoach."

He was particularly fond of his Robot role, once saying he came to consider the suit a "home away from home."

Lockhart said May wore the suit for hours at a time and learned the lines of every actor in the show so he would know when to respond to their cues. Because it wasn't easy to get in and out of the suit, he kept it on during breaks. "He was a smoker," Lockhart remembered. "From time to time (when he was on a break), we'd see smoke coming out of the robot. That always amused us."

May and his wife lost their house in November when a wildfire destroyed their upscale mobile home park in the San Fernando Valley.

Survivors include his wife Judith; his daughter; his son, Martin; and four grandchildren.

These gum packs normally sell for a couple hundred dollars in this condition. With a poor market, this is the highest one of these have sold for to date. BOB WILKINS - CREATURE FEATURES HOST

Dear Friends,

On January 7, 2009, Bob Wilkins passed away peacefully. As many of you know, Bob had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past several years and his family appreciates the concern, thoughts and prayers from his friends and fans.

For us bay area folks, Bob Wilkins was a main staple in many houses. Being the weather man for KNTV-2, Saturday night Creature Feature host from 1971-79, and a brief hero as Captain Cosmo's for kids. I was probably the #1 fan of Creature Features and won the Saturday nite battle for the TV with 5 other family members. Regardless how bad the films were, which most of them were.

I finally met Mr. Wilkins at a Comic Con event in San Francisco in 2005 with my friend, Larry Lee Moniz. It was a thrill to meet him too. Bob still had that dry., but funny humor that I just admired about him. I bought several photos which he sign, and chatted about the show.

I will truely miss this man, for he was very special in my heart, and for the many fans of horror and sci-fi films. Bob did alot for the fans, and really brought Star Trek fandom alive through his show and interviews.

Rest in peace my friend!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Forrest J Ackerman, the sometime actor, literary agent, magazine editor and full-time bon vivant who discovered author Ray Bradbury and was widely credited with coining the term "sci-fi," has died. He was 92.

Ackerman died Thursday of heart failure at his Los Angeles home, said Kevin Burns, head of Prometheus Entertainment and a trustee of Ackerman's estate.

Although only marginally known to readers of mainstream literature, Ackerman was legendary in science-fiction circles as the founding editor of the pulp magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland. He was also the owner of a huge private collection of science-fiction movie and literary memorabilia that for years filled every nook and cranny of a hillside mansion overlooking Los Angeles.

"He became the Pied Piper, the spiritual leader, of everything science fiction, fantasy and horror," Burns said Friday.

Every Saturday morning that he was home, Ackerman would open up the house to anyone who wanted to view his treasures. He sold some pieces and gave others away when he moved to a smaller house in 2002, but he continued to let people visit him every Saturday for as long as his health permitted.

"My wife used to say, 'How can you let strangers into our home?' But what's the point of having a collection like this if you can't let people enjoy it?" an exuberant Ackerman told The Associated Press as he conducted a spirited tour of the mansion on his 85th birthday.

His collection once included more than 50,000 books, thousands of science-fiction magazines and such items as Bela Lugosi's cape from the 1931 film "Dracula."

His greatest achievement, however, was likely discovering Bradbury, author of the literary classics "Fahrenheit 451" and "The Martian Chronicles." Ackerman had placed a flyer in a Los Angeles bookstore for a science-fiction club he was founding and a teenage Bradbury showed up.

Later, Ackerman gave Bradbury the money to start his own science-fiction magazine, Futuria Fantasia, and paid the author's way to New York for an authors meeting that Bradbury said helped launch his career.

"I hadn't published yet, and I met a lot of these people who encouraged me and helped me get my career started, and that was all because of Forry Ackerman," the author told the AP in 2005.

Later, as a literary agent, Ackerman represented Bradbury, Isaac Asimov and numerous other science-fiction writers.

He said the term "sci-fi" came to him in 1954 when he was listening to a car radio and heard an announcer mention the word "hi-fi."

"My dear wife said, 'Forget it, Forry, it will never catch on,'" he recalled.

Soon he was using it in Famous Monsters of Filmland, the magazine he helped found in 1958 and edited for 25 years.

Ackerman himself appeared in numerous films over the years, usually in bit parts. His credits include "Queen of Blood," "Dracula vs. Frankenstein," "Amazon Women on the Moon," "Vampirella," "Transylvania Twist," "The Howling" and the Michael Jackson "Thriller" video. More recently, he appeared in 2007's "The Dead Undead" and 2006's "The Boneyard Collection."

Ackerman returned briefly to Famous Monsters of Filmland in the 1990s, but he quickly fell out with the publisher over creative differences. He sued and was awarded a judgment of more than $375,000.

Forrest James Ackerman was born in Los Angeles on Nov. 24, 1916. He fell in love with science-fiction, he once said, when he was 9 years old and saw a magazine called Amazing Stories. He would hold onto that publication for the rest of his life.

Ackerman, who had no children, was preceded in death by his wife, Wendayne.

Bob May Update

As many of you may know there was yet another set of devastating fires in the Los Angeles area this past week.

Unfortunately, our robot, Bob May, was a resident of the area that was destroyed. Although he and his wife made it out of there in time, their house and all it's contents were completely destroyed.

They had extremely little notice, barely an hour in which to grab what they could, and evacuate. Bob and his wife grabbed a few family items and made it out with only the clothes thay had on their backs, and the shoes on their feet.

Currently, they are living with their daughter, until other arrangements can be made.

If anyone would like to send them notes of encouragement, or anything else, please contact me, and I will forward it to them.

This is a custom manufactured EASY TO BUILD Launch Pad / Display Base model kit scaled for the 12" diameter Polar Lights Lost in Space Jupiter-2 model kit.

(SORRY, BUT THE POLAR LIGHTS JUPITER-2 SPACESHIP MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED!)

The kit features machine shaped acrylic supports and center deck, with other parts manufactured from mostly strip styrene or ABS plastic (some trimming to fit with the styrene strips used for 'flashing' around the support legs will be required, but it is VERY simple to do if you know how to use a ruler!). Detailed instructions are included as well as an email address for questions. Also included are links to photographs of the actual studio miniature to help you with your paint scheme.
Average to above average model skills will be needed to build this kit. The hardest part of the assembly is the tiny rails that go around the inside and outside of the center circular deck. They are very brittle. The best thing to do is heat them up in very hot water, and wrap them around a bottle for a few days until they start to hold their shape. If you try to bend them dry, you will run the risk of snapping them. Extra parts are available if you do this, but try not to as they are a bit expensive! I also strongly suggest using Ambrose Pro-Weld brand adhesive, as the kit is made from acrylic, styrene and ABS plastic. The Ambrose Pro-Weld works well with all three mediums! This is NOT the same launch pad "garage" kit you may have seen for sale elsewhere -- inaccurate, full of bubble holes, warped, and with casting seams requiring a lot of putty and sanding and shaping to get it to go together. Again, this is NOT a "resin cast" garage kit. It is a MUCH MORE ACCURATE KIT made with thorough attention to detail using very high quality components. (Well, except for the little hand rails at the base of the support legs -- they are just paper clips that happen to be just the right shape, and all you have to do is snip them to the desired length, drill a few holes, and that part is done. But, the paper clips ARE from STAPLES!). This kit is VERY clean and sharp -- very little sanding should be required. You will need something to cut the styrene strips that are used as flashing on the edges of the gantry legs, but it is .020 thin strip styrene -- you can score it and snap if you wish, but if you have a good smooth cutter you will get nice crisp results by using it.
This model kit comes complete with detailed instructsions and everything you see above EXCEPT the JUPITER 2 MODEL! You need to already have one of those! AGAIN, YOU WILL NEED AMBROSE PRO-WELD GLUE TO ASSEMBLE THIS KIT BECAUSE IT IS CONSTRUCTED FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT MATERIALS - it is widely available online and in better local hobby shops.

Irwin Allen Merchadise Update 10-19-7

There is a new model kit company who has vowed to pick up where Polar Lights left off. Moebius Models (http://www.moebiusmodels.com), owned and operated by Frank Winspur, has acquired a license from Kevin Burns and "The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen" to produce genuine styrene plastic model kits of various Irwin Allen properties. Unlike many of the fine resin-cast and vacu-formed offerings from smaller companies that have limited distribution, these products will be available in selected retail stores, as well as via on-line ordering. Frank has also secured the services of Polar Lights master mind Dave Metzner, as well as the artistic services of both Chris White, and I'm proud to say, myself.

As I write this, I have just returned from the iHobby Expo in Chicago, a huge event where much of this information, including prototype displays, was released to the public for the first time. The first Irwin Allen-related product will be a 39-inch model kit of the Seaview, with beautiful box art supplied by Chris. This project has actually been known for a while, but the two new surprises I am now able to announce are both a 1/24th scale Space Pod and Chariot. I was proud to have been asked to supply the art work for the Space Pod, and I will post a link as soon as the Moebius web site is updated. Having seen these prototypes, I can report that they will have impeccable detail and accuracy, although a few final details are still being worked out. Availability is currently scheduled for early next year.

As for future projects, I can't officially comment, except to generally state that various other popular IA subjects are currently on the table. It was on October 16,1997 (if you can believe it) that I cut my original deal with Polar Lights to supply design information and box art for the original Jupiter-2 kit. And now, ten years later, it looks like we will have a chance to have the same kind of fun all over again. When there is something new to announce officially, however, you will likely see it here first.

Jupiter-2 Gantry Kit

*** BRAND NEW - JUST RELEASED *** Custom model kit scaled for the Polar Lights Lost in Space Jupiter-2 model kit (POLAR LIGHTS JUPITER-2 MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED!). 12" diameter kit, machine acrylic supports and center deck, other parts are mostly strip styrene or ABS plastic, and you have to trim them to fit. Detailed instructions are included. Average to above average model skills required to build this kit. Suggest using Ambrose Pro-Weld adhesive, as the kit is made from acrylic, styrene and ABS plastic. The one shown in the picture is not finished yet -- I still have to add the inner handrails, 2 outer handrails, and the lower handrails. This is NOT the same launch gantry you may have seen for sale elsewhere -- it is MUCH MORE ACCURATE.

This kit is VERY clean -- very little sanding should be required. There are no tiny holes to fill and such. You will need something to cut the styrene strips that are used as flashing on the edges of the gantry legs, but it is .020 thin plastic -- you can score it and snap if you wish, but if you have a good smooth cutter, it is easier. Comes complete with instructions and everything you see above EXCEPT the wooden base at the bottom (you can get that from A.C. Moore for about five dollars) and it DOES NOT COME WITH A JUPITER-2 MODEL.

If you are good with modeling, you can trim this a bit more and use it to display one of the Trendmaster Jupiter-2 toys as well. The kit just requires a little trimming as the diameter of the Trendmaster toy is smaller than that of the Polar Lights J-2 kit.

It's a shame this wasn't released while Jonathan was still with us. It would have been great to hear his experiences working on the show, as I have heard him say he enjoyed it very much. I am sure his co-stars still have some great memories of Jonathan, and of working on this Cult-Saturday Morning Classic!

In Loving Memory of Mike Suzor

I received e-mails this morning from both Terry and Flint that our dear friend, Mike Suzor has passed away. This is very sad news for us Lost in Space fans. Mike contributed much of his talented art in the LISFAN club for many years. Writing stories, trivia, artwork, and so much more. In 2001 I almost losted everything on the "What I Collect.Com" website. Mike and I spent endless hours saving each file and text for our current website. Mike also did our original website logo, and was even nice enough to send me the original artwork.

Mike was a dear friend, and I will always be thankful for what he did for me, and the fans all over the world. You will be soley missed Mike. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family and friends during this time.

Our freind Mike passed from this realm at 8:20 AM, November 12th, 2006. Mike's legacy will endure thru his art, films and other creative endeavors. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and the LIS community. A multimedia tribute to Mike featuring his work in all media is being planned.

Flint Mitchell:

LISFAN artist Mike Suzor passed away at 8:20 AM today after a long illness. Mike and I pretty much lost contact after the LISFAN days. A mutual friend of ours, LISFAN contributor Kerry Manderbach, did his best to arrange to have Mike's friends visit him in his last days.

It was a surprise, seeing Mike in bed, unable to talk. We (Kerry, LISFAN artist Ken Holland any myself) were alllowed to stay for only a few minutes. Mike wasn't feeling well.

There are a lot of thoughts going on in my mind now. What's happened to Mike will happen to all of us eventually. Mike was lucky enough to have a partner who was willing and able to let him live his last days at home.

There will be a funeral and a tribute to Mike, time and dates to be announced.

Thought you would like an update.

Mike showing us he is not giving up. He is fighter with an iron will. The doctor's prognosis had him expected to pass away by mid August from the lymphoma cancer. His condition has declined and he no longer can move or speak but he communicates with his eyes. He does have brain damage but Mike, in part is still with us. He needs 24 hour medical care but I have been able to make arrangements to keep him at home where he wants to be. I'm doing everything in my power to meet his needs, keep him comfortable and improve his quality of life.

Expecting the worst I did make his final arrangements, but I hope that will not be needed and Mike comes back to us. He has a long hard long road if by the grace of God that happens and I'll be at his side all the way.

I have set up a bank account for Mike for those who would like to make donations for his care. If OK with the moderator I would gladly accept any donation through them with their approval. I swear all funds will go to Mike. He has a ton of expenses and I am close to no longer meet expenses. If OK with the powers that be at this site I can provide details where to send any memorial or donation.

Mike is amazing and once again showing everyone he is no ordinary man.

Thanks for all who have sent concerns, good wishes and prayers. It means so much to both of us.

I have set up a separate bank account specifically for people who wish to make donations. I wanted a memorial but the legal hassle and expense was crazy here in MO. Mike chose me as his power of attorney and care giver, so I have the account set up in my name for the care of Michael R Suzor, this is so the funds are protected from creditors and his family...they are money grabbing folks. I also have to pay Mike's bills since he no long is mentally or physically able to.

Sci-Fi Metropolis Update

We continue to receive tons of e-mails from fans all over the world on updates regarding Norman Sockwell's Sci-Fi Metro Lost in Space merchadise. Norman has been very busy working on many future products for us the fans. Many of the products are under many stages of design, changes, and prototypes. Many in which are waiting approval by Sheila Allen and Kevin Burns. The second stage of Lost in Space action figures have been approved and in the hands of the Toy Company in China for production. The delay is with the small and limited production on these action figures. We hope to have additional updates and news on release dates shortly.

As you can see., Norman is working on many new Lost in Space items. The John Robinson (Jetpack) action figure is incredible, and my long time dream as a fan and collector. The likeness of the Jonathan Harris bust is truly awesome, and the good Doctor would be proud to have seen this made for his loyal fans all over the world. The Space Pod is a marvel of craftsmanship and quality in which Norman stands for.

The wait has been long, the pride and love put into these pieces are a dedication that Norman has promised all of us. We hope that all of you will support Norman's efforts when these come available and buy them,for more is still to come in the months ahead.

New Spaceship Blueprint Book

For those of you who like ACCURATE blueprints and details of fictional and real spacecraft, you'll be interested to know that the authors of "Spaceship Handbook", Jack Hagerty and Jon Rogers, are writing a new one covering shipships not included in the first and this one will be called "The Saucer Fleet". Jon told me a big part of it will be the Jupiter 2. He is using only original blueprints and confirmed measurements to create his illustrations and they are so much more readable and interesting than the original prints, yet they are just as accurate. He approaches his work scientifically as an archeologist would, digging for evidence, and it's nice to know that he is preserving those spaceships as they really were for future generations. Other saucer ships included in it can be seen in the ad picture that I'll upload into the files. The book is still being worked on and there's no release date yet but below is Jon's guide when he researches a spaceship.

In regards my drawings in the upcoming "The Saucer Fleet"

1. All Data drawing in the Upcoming "The Saucer Fleet" will follow the conventions established in our previous book, The Spaceship Handbook. That means that they will be Scaled, Dimensioned, and Color keyed (for some items). They will be fully detailed, notated and explained in accompanying text.

2. All my Data drawings are not the usual SF enthusiast (or Fan) generated drawing. They contain no imaginary elements. They are as accurate to the original as it is possible to engineer using all facts known to me at the time of the drawing. They are always based on primary (or direct) evidence as to the shape and dimensions of the subject ship in question--such as the Jupiter II. I define 'primary' to mean, original blueprints or photographs of the original ship or set.

3. The only time I include hypothetical elements are when there clues to their existance and a need for them to make the ship more rationally understandable. In those cases I clearly indicate that those elements are "Implied or Speculative" and can be removed from the drawing or resultant model.

4. I do intensive research work and take great pains in creating my data drawings. Their purpose is nothing less than to resurrect, and restore as much knowledge about the original spaceship as is possible. I want to save that ship that inspired so many of us before it is lost to the ravages of time. I want future generations to know what it was that inspired us.

5. If the readers of our books so desire, it is fully reasonable and proper that models can be and should be made from my drawings . No permission is required to do this. However, I do appreciate getting an email or picture of the resultant model. I consider those that do as my 'fan mail.' I wish all modelers the best of luck in their work.

Jonathan Harris Update

The Bolt Who Screwed Christmas is a short animated film inspired by (and a parody of) the classic story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Scheduled to be released in late 2006 this may very well be the last film featuring Jonathan Harris. Harris passed away in late 2002 a little more than a year after recording has part for the film. "Sadly Mr. Harris never even got to see character designs for the part he was to portray as we were still looking for artists and animators" Wardlaw stated when he heard that Harris had passed away.

"I grew up watching Harris play Dr. Smith on Lost in Space as well as hearing his voice on shows like the original Battlestar Galactica. When I heard his voice in A Bugs Life I knew I had found my voice for the character of The Bolt. Mr. Harris was a pleasure to work with, and I am sad he never got to see the finished product."

The film also stars the voice of Tress MacNeille as Cindi Loose Screw. Tress MacNeille has a voice credit list that is way to long to go into on this web site (check IMDB) but appears regularly on the Simpsons.

As of February 2006 this film is in production. To be more specific it is being animated with more info coming soon to this page.

In Memory of Al Lewis

NEW YORK - Al Lewis, the cigar-chomping patriarch of "The Munsters" whose work as a basketball scout, restaurateur and political candidate never eclipsed his role as Grandpa from the television sitcom, died after years of failing health. He was 95.

Lewis, with his wife at his bedside, passed away Friday night, said Bernard White, program director at WBAI-FM, where the actor hosted a weekly radio program. White made the announcement on the air during the Saturday slot where Lewis usually appeared.

"To say that we will miss his generous, cantankerous, engaging spirit is a profound understatement," White said.

Lewis, sporting a somewhat cheesy Dracula outfit, became a pop culture icon playing the irascible father-in-law to Fred Gwynne's ever-bumbling Herman Munster on the 1964-66 television show. He was also one of the stars of another classic TV comedy, playing Officer Leo Schnauzer on "Car 54, Where Are You?"But Lewis' life off the small screen ranged far beyond his acting antics. A former ballplayer at Thomas Jefferson High School, he achieved notoriety as a basketball talent scout familiar to coaching greats like Jerry Tarkanian and Red Auerbach.

He operated a successful Greenwich Village restaurant, Grandpa's, where he was a regular presence — chatting with customers, posing for pictures, signing autographs.

Just two years short of his 90th birthday, a ponytailed Lewis ran as the Green Party candidate against incumbent Gov. George Pataki. Lewis campaigned against draconian drug laws and the death penalty, while going to court in a losing battle to have his name appear on the ballot as "Grandpa Al Lewis."He didn't defeat Pataki, but managed to collect more 52,000 votes.Lewis was born Alexander Meister in upstate New York before his family moved to Brooklyn, where the 6-foot-1 teen began a lifelong love affair with basketball. He later became a vaudeville and circus performer, but his career didn't take off until television did the same.

Lewis, as Officer Schnauzer, played opposite Gwynne's Officer Francis Muldoon in "Car 54, Where Are You?" — a comedy about a Bronx police precinct that aired from 1961-63. One year later, the duo appeared together in "The Munsters,"taking up residence at the fictional 1313 Mockingbird Lane.The series, about a family of clueless creatures plunked down in middle America, was a success and ran through 1966. It forever locked Lewis in as the memorably twisted character; decades later, strangers would greet him on the street with shouts of "Grandpa!"

Unlike some television stars, Lewis never complained about getting typecast and made appearances in character for decades.

"Why would I mind?" he asked in a 1997 interview. "It pays my mortgage."Lewis rarely slowed down, opening his restaurant and hosting his WBAI radio program. At one point during the '90s, he was a frequent guest on the Howard Stern radio show, once sending the shock jock diving for the delay button by leading an undeniably obscene chant against the Federal Communications Commission.

He also popped up in a number of movies, including the acclaimed "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" and "Married to the Mob." Lewis reprised his role of Schnauzer in the movie remake of "Car 54," and appeared as a guest star on television shows such as "Taxi," "Green Acres" and "Lost in Space."But in 2003, Lewis was hospitalized for an angioplasty. Complications during surgery led to an emergency bypass and the amputation of his right leg below the knee and all the toes on his left foot. Lewis spent the next month in a coma. A year later, he was back offering his recollections of a seminal punk band on the DVD "Ramones Raw."

He is survived by his wife, Karen Ingenthron-Lewis, three sons and four grandchildren.

Congratulations to the Pendercraft Team - Winners of the First Annual Uncle Odie's Award program for 2005!

We thank everyone for this award. Being the first to receive this annual award is a great honor, since we will forever be #1 in the Odies archives.

The Jupiter-2 Virtual Video Tour came into my mind as soon as I learned I could make videos of footage while I was inside the game. I thought it would be fun to do the "stowaway" opening sequence as a recreation. Since it was my first video, it took me over 10 hours to complete it. It is also the most watched of all our videos raking in more than 150 views a month since I released it last March...thats alot of views and interest. It won the 2nd monthly award for 2005, and now, the coveted first annual winner award for Uncle Odies Collectibles. I have been a big fan of Robert Vanderpool since he opened his doors 5 years ago. Now, he is a big fan of our work. I am very pleased of our professional relationship in the past year, he's a great guy.

In 2004, I hooked up with Ronnie Pendergraft because of his 1st Jupiter-2 model he made for FS 2002 and I was very interested in his work. Not only as a die hard Lost in Space fan, but as a simulation pilot in the FS series. I convinced him that we could start a unique website and offer LIS fans everywhere, their own virtual LIS playground, complete with flyable/driveable ships and stunning scenery add-ons.

While we have not come as far as I thought we would by this time, the quality and the aura associated with our products has mesmerised thousands all over the world. The more we work with the programs, the more we learn to incorporate new and exciting items. Since Carl Reddin joined, the playground has increased dramatically with his wonderful chariot and his crash site sceneries.

Ronnie has given us all the basic flying equipment of the Robinson party. He has toiled for months on end with no complaint and still continues to amaze me with new things. Right now, we are working on the Mark Goddard Edition Jupiter-2 that will surpass the visual quality of any previous versions. Many new effects, sounds and interior improvements will, once again, make us leaders in the virtual world of LIS.

Of course without interest from the fans, we would not be doing this anymore, I think. We also thank the special people that help drive the awareness of LIS and Pendercrafts with people everywhere. I would like to take a moment to mention these fine people, and in no particular order, because of what they have done for us, they deserve mention due to their contributions over the past year and a half;

Hey, it's me!

Well, I simple forgot I had this email address but I haven't forgotten about you guys.

After a year plagued with problem after problem I was beginning to believe in the LIS Curse! I'm glad to say, if there was such a thing; we beat it all the way back to Alpha Centauri!

The time delay was actually a good thing because it gave me the time to add a couple of cool features for all of us. TV Producer Kevin Burns agreed to contribute an interview along with a very nice introduction to Bill's story by, none other than, Sheila Allen (widow of LIS creator Irwin Allen). Kevin Burns also scrounged up some rare LIS off camera shots for us to use; thank you Kevin!

Now that we have worked through all the issues the book has arrived and we have started sending them out all around the world.
