The New Poseidon Adventure

It is indeed currently being filmed, it stars the likes of Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Richard Dreyfuss and Emmy Rossum. The title is "Poseidon". It is being directed by Wolfgang Peterson, and is set for a mega blockbuster premiere in May 2006.

They are not publicising it much because they don't want to add to the press for the NBC remake. The NBC version is here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419358/ It involves a terrorist act that capsizes the ship instead of a tidal wave, and the characters are, among others of course, a Dept of Homeland Security agent, as well as a reality tv show producer and an "pop idol" winner, all the while a terrorist is on the prowl. So much for a 'remake'. The big budget movie version supposedly stays truer to the original movie.

Time Tunnel DVD Release

THE TIME TUNNEL (ABC 1966-67) is certainly one of the late Irwin Allen's better SF tv series produced in the 1960's and this long anticipated two volume DVD collection promises to be something truly outstanding for the show's devout fan following.

It has been promised (by informed insiders) that the source elements utilized for these disc pressings will be taken from the original 35mm print masters newly restored and digitally remastered in high definition with each episode presented in it's entirety along with the original cliffhanger endings complete and intact. Probably in anticipation of ultimately issuing this valuable tv property (once again) in HD somewhere later down the line.

The volume one 4-disc box set (due out on January 24th, 2006) will consist of the first 15 episodes presented in their original ABC Television Network primetime broadcast order along with the 55 minute production pilot of "Rendezvous with Yesterday" (09/09/1966).

Many of the show's best efforts can be found here including "Rendezvous with Yesterday" (in two versions), "One Way to the Moon" (16/09/1966), "End of the World" (23/09/1966), "The Day the Sky Fell In" (30/09/1966), "The Last Patrol" (07/10/1966), "Revenge of the Gods" (21/10/1966) and "Massacre" (28/10/1966).

THE TIME TUNNEL is one SF tv series that certainly got off to a very strong start indeed!

The series' single season is marked by the early tv appearances of such distinguished performers as Carroll O'Connor, Ellen Burstyn, Tom Skerritt, Susan Hampshire, Jim Davis, Susan Flannery and even Robert Duvall many of whom would shortly achieve greater celebrity becoming Hollywood legends in the ensuing years to follow.

The first fifteen episodes contained in the volume one 4-disc box set will be comprised of the following 15 segments:

01) "Rendezvous with Yesterday" (09/09/1966)
02) "One Way to Moon" (16/09/1966)
03) "End of the World" (23/09/1966)
04) "The Day the Sky Fell In" (30/09/1966)
05) "The Last Patrol" (07/10/1966)
06) "The Crack of Doom" (14/10/1966)
07) "Revenge of the Gods" (10/21/1966)
08) "Massacre" (28/10/1966)
09) "Devil's Island" (11/11/1966)
10) "Reign of Terror" (18/11/1966)
11) "Secret Weapon" (25/11/1966)
12) "The Death Trap" (02/12/1966)
13) "The Alamo" (09/12/1966)
14) "Night of the Long Knives" (16/12/1966)
15) "Invasion" (30/12/1966)

All to be presented in spectacular color taken from pristine, vault stored 35mm negatives for optimum visual and audio quality insuring maximum entertainment value.

This should prove to be one of the major DVD releases of 2006! Coming out in January it's certainly a marvellous way to begin the New Year for serious collectors of classic tv series from the Golden Age when television and imagination were not strangers to each other.

Fox will release Time Tunnel: Volume One on the 24th of January 2006. This short-lived series first aired in 1966.

Rumour has it that the discs will be pressed from the original 35mm prints and digitally remastered in high definition, so those of you still watching dodgy VHS may be able to obtain crystal clear picture quality. This is apparently forward planning for a potential HD issue further down the line. The volume one 4-disc box set will consist of the first 15 episodes presented in their original ABC Television.

Culttvman Update

October 9, 2005

From CultTVman's Hobbyshop: http://www.CultTVman.net

And so comes time for another edition of Retro Rockets. It's been a fairly quiet modeling summer, outside of Wonderfest and the IPMS Nationals.

The IPMS Nats were held in Atlanta GA in July. It was, according to everything I read, the largest IPMS model show ever. The dealers room was jam packed with 400 tables of model dealers from all over the country and beyond. Science Fiction was well represented by myself, Federation Models, Amazing Figure Modeler and a few others. One dealer had a number of large kits including a 4 foot Jupiter 2. I was also able to hook up and meet a few other dealers including the folks from Masterpiece Models [who produced the cool Time Machine kit] and Arvey Models [who make Star Destroyer detail parts]. This dealers room was a real wallet draining experience!

The model show was very impressive with a great turn out for Sci Fi hardware and figures. There are plenty of photos posted around the web, including the CultTVman site. Given there were thousands of models on display, I dare say this show featured the best genre turn out of any show other than Wonderfest.

Of course it was always great to meet up with a people I've met over the years through the internet. The IPMS Nats drew a lot of science fiction modelers, but a lot of them were not the people that go to Wonderfest. I got to meet a lot of people for the first time at this show. A lot of people build armor, aircraft, cars -- much more than just sci-fi. All the more reason to make an IPMS show part of your plans for next year!

STAR WARS EPISODE 3 KITS FROM AMT
The new Star Wars kits from AMT have been pushed back to November. These were originally supposed to come out back in May. AMT/Ertl has release some new photos of the upcoming Star Wars Episode 3 kits. The two styrene kits are the Jedi Starfighter and the Corporate Alliance Droid Tank. The two diecast kits are the Jedi Starfighter and Droid Tri-Fighter. New photos from RC2 seems to indicate the diecast Jedi Starfighter will be available first as Anakin's ship and then reissued as Obiwan's Starfighter. I'm awaiting more information on this. AMT REISSUED STAR TREK KITS
Racing Champions/AMT/Ertl has not announced any new Polar Lights kits yet, but they are going to reissue several of the old AMT kits. I've been telling people for some time that eventually, someone from RC2 would look around, see the molds and figure they could make some money on these kits. RC has been very happy with the sales of the Star Wars reissues and the Polar Lights Star Trek kits. They have recently worked out licensing to continue, at least for a limited time, the Trek license.

Look for the following: The Enterprise 3 Ship set with the 1:2500 scale Enterprise B, C and E; the Enterprise 3 Ship set with the 1:2500 classic Enterprise, refit Enterprise and Enterprise D; the Klingon Bird of Prey (pick your scale 1:350, 1:650, 1:1000 LOL!); and the 3 ship Adversary set with a Romulan Warbird, Klingon BOP and Ferengi Marauder (mixed scales). These were originally announced to come out in August, but now are slated for October and November. As always, the release dates may change.

NEW DECALS FROM JTGRAPHICS
JTGraphics has a number of new decal sheets available for the Polar Lights Trek kits.

JTG-PL07-A 350 Scale NX Additional Names -- For your 350 scale NX modeler’s out there, now you can name your NX Class something other than Enterprise! Customization available for and additional fee. Cost: $10.00

SPINDRIFT COCKPITS FROM TRYLON
These are back! From Trylon productions comes the Spindrift Cockpit. Originally available in limited numbers a couple years ago, this product has been completely retooled. The new kit comes with 8 new wall panels, a new instrument panel, two pilot seats, steering controls, speakers, and even a telephone. There is a sheet of graphic panels and fully illustrated instructions. Available exclusively from CultTVman's Hobbyshop
